{"id":249,"date":"2016-10-14T20:38:41","date_gmt":"2016-10-14T20:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mcdougallcenter.missouri.edu\/?page_id=249"},"modified":"2018-10-25T22:07:20","modified_gmt":"2018-10-25T22:07:20","slug":"our-mission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/mcdougallcenter.missouri.edu\/index.php\/our-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Mission"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The McDougall Center for Photojournalism Studies&#8217; purpose is to preserve for archival, research and educational use collections of photographs by newspaper, magazine and documentary photographers.<\/p>\n<p>Further, it creates the Missouri Photojournalism Archive, providing educational programming from the archive of Angus McDougall and other individual photographers, while sustaining and expanding educational efforts of existing Missouri programs: the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mophotoworkshop.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Missouri Photo Workshop<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.poyi.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pictures of the Year International<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpoy.org\/?s=Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">College Photographer of the Year Competition<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/photojournalismhalloffame.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame<\/a>. These programs resonate with the Missouri Photojournalism Archive initiative, but each maintains its identity.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mcdougallcenter.missouri.edu\/index.php\/photojournalism-archive\/\">Find out more about the Missouri Photojournalism Archive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Funding<\/h3>\n<p>The Center is funded through proceeds from an endowment established by Angus and Betty McDougall, with infrastructure support from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.journalism.missouri.edu\/\">Missouri School of Journalism<\/a>. Additional funding comes from public support.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mcdougallcenter.missouri.edu\/index.php\/support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Find out more about how you can support the center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Conservation<\/h3>\n<p>Materials are stored at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umsystem.edu\/ums\/fa\/management\/records\/services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University Records Management<\/a>\u00a0as the work is scanned and readied for the active electronic archive. Original materials will be stored in cold storage or best available storage. A goal of the center will be to construct optimum space for the collection.<\/p>\n<h3>Research<\/h3>\n<p>Individuals interested in conducting research on archival materials and photographs within the collection should <a href=\"http:\/\/mcdougallcenter.missouri.edu\/index.php\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">contact the center<\/a>. Through prior agreement, researchers will be give onsite access to materials as well as a temporary onsite space in which to conduct their research.
